5 Caribbean artists and their exhibits in London this year

London is a creative mecca for art and artists, and exhibitions celebrating Black Caribbean artists and stories are now gaining more prevalence across the city. From bold paintings to powerful installations, these exhibits explore topics like migration, identity, and everyday life for the British Caribbean diaspora. Here are some of the key exhibitions you won’t want to miss in 2025.


Black Sound: The Story of British Black Music

  • Dates: Opened 10 March and running until 19 July 2025

  • Venue: Barbican Music Library

  • Multiple artists and creatives

This interactive exhibition traces over 100 years of British Black music, exploring a wide range of genres, from grime and drill to jazz. The exhibit aims to highlight the influence that Black musicians have had on the evolution of British music.

Exodus

  • Dates: Opened 29 November 2024 and running until 25 May 2025

  • Venue: Museum of London Docklands

  • Artist: Zak Ové

Ové is a British-Trinidadian artist whose mixed-media installation explores the themes of migration and the black diaspora. This exhibit reflects on the experiences of displacement and the implications that colonial rule has had on the African and Caribbean diaspora.

A Front Room in 1976

  • Dates: Open until June

  • Venue: Museum of the Home

  • Curator: Michael McMillan

McMillan, who is of St Vincent and Grenadine heritage, recreates a 1970s West Indian “front room” at the Museum of the Home, showcasing the domestic lives and aesthetics of African-Caribbean families in the UK during the era.

A Thousand Small Stories

  • Dates: Opened 17 April and running until 13 September 2025

  • Venue: Autograph, London

  • Artist: Eileen Perrier

Perrier, of Ghanaian and Dominican descent, brings together three decades of her photography in an exhibition that focuses on portraiture that captures community and personal narratives whilst also exploring themes of identity, heritage, and representation.

Gated Canyons

  • Dates: Opening 10 June and running until 19 October 2025

  • Venue: Dulwich Picture Gallery

  • Artist: Rachel Jones

Rachel Jones is a British artist of Jamaican heritage. Jones is also an associate lecturer and the designer of the 2024 Brit Awards trophy. Renowned for her bold use of colour and abstract painting style, she explores themes of identity and emotion through her vibrant, large-scale works.
